Portrait Paintings

When painting a portrait painting I usually work from photographs, as this is more convenient for the client. A personal sitting is desireable but not always possible these days due to other commitments and long distances . A portrait is more convincing if the sitter has a serene expression that could be maintained for many hours. A broad smiling expression does not work quite so well.
